National Benefit
The intended ARNAS network
will significantly advance the research agenda for analytical science by
creating national awareness of research activities and expertise, providing
enhanced education and opportunities for the next generation of analytical
scientists, and by stimulating international collaborations. ARNAS would offer direct economic benefits by better
coordination and use of research facilities and resources, together with
improved productivity of practitioners as a result of enhanced channels of
communication, awareness and coordination.
Research Priorities
ARNAS falls directly within
all four National Research Priorities, either by the nature of the research
itself or the fact that it supports other research areas. Examples from the first category include environmental
analysis and remote monitoring devices (Priority 1), medical diagnostics and
proteomics (Priority 2), microfluidics, smart materials, nano-analytical
devices, and sensors (Priority 3), and forensics and rapid explosive screening
technologies (Priority 4). In the
second category are examples such as advanced separation science, which
underpins genomics and many other areas of biotechnology, and advanced
chemometrics, which enables reliable analytical information to be extracted from
numerous forms of complex measurement data.
